About Family Bible Fellowship

We are blessed to have a great and rich history in the life of our church. Though our church's name, Family Bible Fellowship, is new, our story began more than 100 years ago, as Ridgeville Baptist Church. Organized on March 10, 1894, under the leadership of W. H. Dowling, E.W. Peoples, and J.F. Preacher, Ridgeville Baptist Church began holding services in the local school. At that time, the church was given two acres of land for the future site of a church building. Within a year of receiving the property, the church was constructed, and Sunday services transitioned from the school to the new building. Shortly following, the church building burned. In 1902, the present-day sanctuary was built. Over the course of the next 115 years, a parsonage, graveyard, and other land was added. Ridgeville Baptist Church grew and went forth with the Gospel message of Jesus Christ, becoming the mother church of Yemassee Baptist in 1939.Though the congregation of Ridgeville Baptist Church dwindled over the years, a few faithful members remained steadfast, continuing to faithfully serve and maintain the church building and activities of Ridgeville Baptist.

Beginning in 2010, a group of faithful brothers in Christ began to meet in the Fellowship Hall and homes of group members, in order to pray and study the Scripture. The members prayed with the hope that the small Ridgeville Baptist Church would grow once again into a vibrant, thriving ministry. In the Fall of 2016, the team of faithful brothers, and the current leaders of RBC, called a meeting with Pastor Stuart Guthrie, a graduate student of Dallas Theological Seminary. They discussed the possibility of taking on a revitalization project alongside other faithful men who shared the vision of seeing revival within the church body, as well as within the town of Yemassee and surrounding communities. The group agreed that Ridgeville Baptist needed a new vision and new direction that would focus on the three core values of family, Bible, and fellowship. On the evening of March 3, 2017, the leadership team cast the mission and vision of the church, and the name, Ridgeville Baptist Church, was voted unanimously to be changed to Family Bible Fellowship of Ridgeville, signifying the church’s new mission and purpose, which is to know Christ and to make Christ known.
